WASHINGTON – A Virginia man is dead and three people are injured after a crash in Alexandria Thursday morning that left the car the group was riding in split in half.
The driver – Javed Hussaini, 25, of Manassas – is charged with DUI-related manslaughter.
The Audi A8 was traveling southbound on I-395 when it ran off the road and hit a tree, Virginia State Police say. The impact split the car in half, and part of the vehicle went over the guardrail and landed on another exit ramp, police say. Both passengers in the backseat were ejected from the car, police say.
One of the backseat passengers, A. Tawab Ebadi, 25, of Chantilly, died at the scene of the accident despite attempts by a police trooper and off-duty firefighter to give him CPR.
Hussaini and his two other passengers – Ilyas Qualandri, 23, and Fernanda Ferrufino, 23 – are recovering from their injuries.
The accident is still under investigation. Speed and alcohol were factors in the crash, police say.
