MGM National Harbor is looking at moving some of its gaming operations into the great outdoors.
A permit application for commercial contractor JE Richards Inc. to perform 鈥渆lectrical work for outdoor gaming construction drawings鈥� at the casino-resort was submitted Friday to Prince George鈥檚 County.
When asked if it was pursuing outdoor gaming, MGM sent the following statement to the Washington Business Journal: 鈥淢GM National Harbor is always evaluating our business to ensure we are providing our guests with the best entertainment and gaming experiences. Outdoor gaming is one of those enhancements we have assessed and feel it will be a great addition to our resort.鈥�
MGM declined to comment further on its plans.
The pursuit of some form of outdoor gaming comes in the middle of the Covid-19 crisis, where outside settings have emerged as safer places to enjoy activities once performed indoors. Restaurants have found a lifeline with outdoor dining 鈥� and some casinos have as鈥�
