Victim, suspect dead in Hyattsville double shooting

Prince George’s County police say they are investigating a fatal early morning shooting in Hyattsville where the victim was found in his car leaving the area, as the suspect was still inside the victim’s home. Both have died.

Zach Nesmer with the Hyattsville Police Department told 海角社区app that authorities believe it was a targeted attack.

In a , Prince George鈥檚 County Police Department said at around 12:20 a.m. Tuesday morning officers with the HPD responded to reports of a possible burglary in the 5600 block of 30th Ave.

On arrival at the scene, officers encountered a car attempting to leave the area. When officers stopped the vehicle, they found a man in the car, now identified as 23-year-old Giovanni Hayles, a resident of the home, suffering from a gunshot wound.

Hayles was transported to the hospital, where he later died, the release said.

During a search of the residence, officers located the suspect of the break in, still in the home and suffering from a gunshot wound. He was declared dead at the scene, police said.

A gun was found near the suspect’s body, the release said.

Investigators are still trying to identify the suspect so they can notify his family.

He said that the family members are being treated as witnesses and are being interviewed as part of the investigation.

“At this time, it seems like a targeted incident. We don’t believe there’s any threat to the public at this time,” Nemser said.

“We just want the public to know that this is actually a really safe community where this incident occurred and this is out of the ordinary as far as we’re concerned,” Nemser told 海角社区app.

The investigation into the fatal double shooting has been turned over to the PGPD’s Homicide Unit. PGPD asks that anyone with information on this case to call 301-516-2512.
