While temperatures hit the low 90s, a Monday afternoon weathermaker could bring strong wind, rain and storms to the D.C. region.
The National Weather Service has placed the D.C. region under a severe thunderstorm watch until 9 p.m., warning that a brief tornado is possible across northeast Maryland. Some urban areas could see flooding from Monday’s wet weather.
Parts of Virginia’s Culpeper and Fauquier counties are under a severe thunderstorm warning until 4:45 p.m. as storms with high winds move through the region. Winds up to 60 mph could knock out power in some places.
7海角社区app First Alert Meteorologist Mark Pe帽a said the afternoon weather event could bring heavy rainfall, “anywhere from around a half to over an inch” in some neighborhoods.
Pe帽a said the sudden and heavy rain would alleviate the region’s drought conditions over several days, but happening at once could inundate roads Monday afternoon, adding motorists should “turn around, don’t drown.”
The threat will drop into the evening hours, and showers are expected to linger overnight. Tuesday will bring cooler conditions with highs in the 80s.
