WATCH: Acorns are surprisingly edible. New exhibit at GW champions the ‘humble little nut’

We hear a lot about chestnuts this time of year, but in today鈥檚 episode of “Matt About Town,” 海角社区app鈥檚 Matt Kaufax tells us why it鈥檚 acorns you should really be thinking about.

From mashing to boiling to seasoning and cooking, D.C.-area artist, educator and author Shawn Shafner says he aims to get people to see acorns in a different light.

鈥淭his humble little nut is an incredibly powerful thing in a lot of different ways,” he told 海角社区app.

Starting Wednesday, Shafner鈥檚 acorns will be on display as part of a new exhibit at George Washington University called which focuses on getting in touch with indigenous cultures.

Part of that exhibit will focus on native plants, and Shawn said he’s even planning an acorn cookout of sorts on Dec. 8!
